Free Form

Nothing says spring/summer/growth/sunshine/renewel/etc like organic silhouettes in my opinion. We've seen plenty of asymmetrical-this and surplice-that over the past few years, but really only the higher-end designers have shown free-form silhouettes and draping in their true glory. A look I began acquiring a taste for a couple years ago, I found myself drawn to cowl neck draping and the now ever-popular asymmetrical pullover/sweater/cardigan thing. Looks which I don't care for now. And I'd like to point out, before I go any further, that I also no not like the asymmetrical "crop-top" tank look. Its unflattering and unoriginal. "Overpowering but everywhere" styles like that, or the jeffrey campbell platforms, to me speak more about a persons inability to accessorize. You have to buy an extremely trendy (not in the good way you may think, but more the everysingleotherpersonhasit way) Have you ever seen a girl wearing a very normal "blah" outfit, but then as your eyes meet the end of her gams you are bombarded with some obscenely huge heels in some bright color? Just an imaginary example. My point is DON'T LET YOUR CLOTHES WEAR YOU. If you take anything away from this blog, let that be it. Motto. Bam. Now I'm rambling.

Anyways, messing with silhouette can be tricky. Whatever patterns, colors, lengths, and fits may be popular, the general silhouette of certain pieces remains consistent pretty much throughout a decade. Honestly have shorts changed that much in the past five years? In some pieces now, you'll see structure and symmetry gone in favor of pleats, tucks, and hems that are really quite aesthetically pleasing in their disproportion. That in combination with the popularity of jersey cotton, linens, and other delicate, lightweight materials makes for some very unique, ethereal, and artistic, really, clothing. You'll notice a lot of the pieces I'm about to post photos of are by Helmut Lang. This brand masters modernist silhouettes- meets sexy.

Aside from clothing, raw-edge leather pieces are another perfect example of this look that I love. Once reserved for hippies and robin hood, this look is now considered sophisticated and chic. There was a whole line of raw edge leather purses at obscene prices at Nordstrom that I was drooling over last fall.

Even though this is a look I love, I'm still hunting for pieces like these! I really only have one top that I still love thats draped that isn't just a simple cowl neck. Here's an instagram photo of it from a month or so ago.

Sailor Moon

The fourth of July came early this year.. by way of my outfit today. I actually didn't realize how red-white-and-blue I was until after I uploaded all these photos. I guess I had some subconscious patriotic urges that just couldn't wait another week. I can't wait to take my camera with me to work out at Roche on the actual fourth and see if there's any summer style worth documenting out there. I kept it casual and comfortable today as I dressed to do some errands and later head to a friend's graduation party (though I couldn't stay long as I've found myself an incubus of the viral plague) but of course I was healthy enough to strike some poses in the mirror (what girl ever isn't?) and share with you all.

Here's what I wore this morning while running some errands, just wanted to show this adorable bright purple sweater (Didn't photograph as bright as it really is) that I coped at the thrift store last week. I should have included it in my last post but it slipped my mind.

Buried Treasure

Some of you may already know but I am a thrift store fiend. This past year especially, being on this painfully boring island, I've dedicated a lot of time to sifting through musty smelling racks and bins. Anyway, I thought it would be fun to share some of the things I've been finding on these little excursions of mine. Here's some stuff I've picked up over the last month or so that I I hope to include in later posts, when I have some more time to actually create some outfits. It's always fun to show off the gems you discover amongst the junk!

Sharon Anthony leopard print swing pants.

Unmarked whicker clutch. This is so cute with my guava asymmetrical midi.

Tultex oversize v-neck sweatshirt. This is so long that I'm wearing it as a mini. Really cute and different.

Country Aire striped blazer. I can't wait to show you how I styled this in an upcoming post.

Unmarked faux-snakeskin clutch. I LOVE this! has a hidden strap inside.

David Mehler real leather and snakeskin clutch.

Calvin Klein studded sandals. Awesome find for 3 bucks!

Unmarked rose gold chain bracelet.

Units woman's tunic/shirt. Long enough that I've been wearing it as a mini dress.

Kasper for ASL blazer. This is so cute, it looks like a little ring master's or magicians coat.

Newport News sequin maxi. Ok, I know this is ridiculous, but I couldn't resist. I'm not sure if I'll ever even wear it, but just look at it! So odd and flashy

Collection of cross body's I've found this month or so. Old lady bags and even camera cases can double as purses, it just all depends on how you style them.
